2020 a year to remember, COVID a world in turmoil resulting in amongst other things all unnecessary travel coming to an abrupt halt. It was a time, for taking the opportunity to look forwards but also to reminisce on the path we had taken up to 2020.

Our sailing journey started over 20 years ago, sailing the Hauraki Gulf every summer with our family and local boat club. Looking back after two seasons in the Med the Hauraki Gulf was a great place to learn not only about sailing but also about changeable weather, on many occasions going out in perfect conditions only to return home in some atrocious conditions.
Marcel had the good fortune “his words” to sail two passages on friends' boats to Fiji thus setting in motion the purchase of “Sojourn” a 42ft Beneteau in 2015, enabling us to spend six months sailing around the beautiful Fiji Island.
It didn't take long to realize we wanted more - to carry on sailing not just around NZ or to Fiji to escape the NZ winters.

The Med became our goal.
The hunt was on to find the perfect boat for us in the Med while sitting in our lounge on the other side of the world. Good fortune was with us Marcel not only found the perfect boat for us a Lagoon 420 catamaran, with the added benefit of having the broker in Auckland just down the road from us - What could go wrong?
We arrived in Greece in April 2018 with the real possibility the sale wouldn't proceed, we would be in Europe for seven months without a boat, the pressure was on as seven different groups of friends and family had flights booked to join us at different times & places.

Hi I'm Karen

This is the story, of purchasing Kiri Maia sailing through Greece, Turkey, Montenegro & Croatia, including land travel to Albania & Budapest.

I'm looking forward to sharing with you the fun times and tribulations we experienced while sailing in the Med.
